Tapers are meant to assist with the transition to a larger size & inserting the larger size. They are not meant to be worn as jewellery. You also probably were a bit rough at some stage, either taking the tapers out at the meet, or putting them in again afterwards and that was when the tearing occurred. Treat your lobes as if they were newly pierced. Leave the 8 g plugs in and do regular sea salt soaks. Give your ears a good 3 months to settle down before you try to size up. In a couple of months you can then start giving your lobes a little moisturiser to help prepare them for the next stretch. You can also save up for some suitable 6 g plugs. Under the circumstances, I would advise you to try to get some 7 g plugs (may not be easy) because you are getting to the stage where stretches become more difficult. Alternatively, you could put some tape around your 8 g plugs to increase their diameter just a little, to help with the transition - but don't do that until the 3 months are up.

You're having a blowout. Leave them alone and let them heal, don't upsize them and put in a clean plug (not taper as they can damage if left in with blowouts) preferably wood as that can help them heal quicker.
