  My favorite tip to learn and memorize things is a technique called mnenonics (sp??) Basically, you make weird associations in your brain. The weirder, the better. I use it to remember things and to teach my son spelling. Here is an example: The word "tapestry" I don't know why, but I could never remember if it was pronounced TAP-estry or TAPE-estry. I finally told myself to think of TAP shoes, and i never forgot again. The hippocampus is a part of the brain that helps you remember and learn. When i learned this, I pictured a hippo walking along a college campus, holding books under it's arm, etc. I always remember that now. When you use sentences like My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos. (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) that also works. I find this technique to work weirdly well. Also, know your learning style. I learn best by reading a text AND taking notes. Others are listeners, or like pictures/graphs, or need to learn by doing.
