  • thinking about taking a cruise with me and my partner but getting a mixed bag of feedback on which is the best to go on. i want to take off from either the Brisbane or Sydney port and ...show more

  • Answer:

The P and O ships operating out of Sydney and Brisbane will be free of on board tipping, operating in Australian currency, and have 240 volt power supply. The Pacific Dawn is operating out of Brisbane, the Jewel out of Sydney, and the Pearl mainly out of Auckland, New Zealand, although also doing cruises from Sydney. You also have the choice of the Dawn Princess out of Melbourne, the Sun Princess from Sydney and the Sea Princess from Brisbane. Towards the end of 2015, the Golden Princess will also be based in Melbourne, and the Diamond in Sydney. Depending on which cabins you choose, and the length of cruise, you will pay from $100 a day for an inside cabin, to $300 a day for a balcony cabin.

Unfortunately haven't been on the P&O ships resident / operating in the South Pacific. If they are similar/same standard as the British ones they would be our first choice. If they are UK P&O ships on a world tour and you are getting a lift part way round go for them, million times better than Carnival.

cruises start at $100 per person per day and only go up from there. first you need to find out what, if any, cruises /ships leave out of the ports you want

P&O all the way! Nothing but bad things happen on Carnival. I went on the Pacific Pearl last year, 9 nights from Sydney. I took $1,000 with me. Came home with $14. My first cruise in 2012, was 7 nights. I end up taking $750 with me and came home with $5. I love the Pearl. It's such a beautiful little ship, and the crew are nothing but nice. I'm going on the Pearl this year, 10 nights. I haven't worked out how much I'm taking yet, but most likely it'll be in the 1,000's.

Go on expedia.com enter your departure port, and see what pops up. If I were traveling out of Oz I would go with MC or Celebrity.
