How long will it take the swelling from a black eye to go away?

  A black eye is basically a normal bruise. It should leave in about a week to 2 weeks, depending on its severity. If you want to make it go away faster, there 3 things that are proven to help: Put an ice pack there. Make sure its very cold. This will help stop the black eye from spreading too far. However, seeing as you already have had several days with those bruises, use a warm pack instead. Why? Well, a black eye is a mass of coagulated blood. Warmth will allow their destruction so fresh blood can flow and the blackness will leave. When you go to bed, make sure your head is nice and elevated, so blood pressure in that region may be decreased. Too much blood pressure will the veins to constrict and delay the advent of new blood. Also, remember to sleep! Its when you sleep that your body heals itself. Take vitamins and eat foods high in vitamin K and A. Once again, this has to do with blood. Foods high in Vitamin A are carrots, eggs, liver, spinach and winter vegetables. You can find ample Vitamin K in parsley and in almost all green leafy vegetables. Hope you get better soon!
