Answer:
You get experience through acting training - good, quality training from well respected instructors. You can not only improve your skills, but it's one way to start to network in the industry. If you can impress an acting teacher with your talent, dedication and professionalism they might be willing to refer you to a talent agent. And agents do attend showcases put on by well-respected acting programs so you could get an agent's attention that way too. And you get experience for your resume by doing non-professional work in things like community theater and student films. Check out the website of local theaters and see if they have some upcoming open auditions. Contract local film schools and ask how they find actors for student films. Honestly, if you can't audition and get cast in local amateur productions, it's not going to be any easier to find professional work. If you can't find opportunities - then make your own. Get together with like-minded people and start an improv troupe for fun and maybe perform locally. Put on local shows, make your own movies or a web series. They may not be the best thing to list on a resume, but they're opportunities to do something you hopefully love. Because honestly if the only reason you're out looking for experience because you think there's some magic amount that will get you an agent and then you'll be "discovered" - you're going to be disappointed. That's not how the industry works. You really need to be passionate about acting, enough that you would do it even if you never got paid See - good acting training and experience isn't just so you can get an agent. It helps you figure out if you really have a talent and passion for acting (as opposed to a desire to be "discovered"). You need to know if you actually love the work of acting - the auditioning, rehearsing, memorizing lines and blocking, analyzing scripts, building a character. If can also help you figure out if you have any real talent for acting. Extra work is not considered acting experience and wouldn't be listed as experience on a professional acting resume. Sure some people with big agencies did work as extras. Some people with big agencies also waited tables, sold things door-to-door and had other jobs that they don't list on an acting resume because they're not acting experience. Good luck.
