What are the best jobs in Norway?

What are good jobs in norway and what are good universities in norway for people from america?

  • What is the job name and requirements and what is the university name? Preferably a university that teaches Norwegian

  • Answer:

If you want to learn Norwegian, you should look into doing ISS (international summer school) at UIO. There are a couple of Norwegian language foundational year programmes, but those are mostly reserved for quota students. The few remaining spots are extraordinarily competitive. In order to gain admissions, you're going to need to have passed the bergenstest or other approved upper intermediate language exam. If you were educated in America, you also need 3 AP classes or 1 year of uni. You'll also have to meet any prerequisites for the programme you're interested in. Your question about what universities are good is far too broad to answer with any degree of accuracy. Norway has 5 universities now, with Stavanger being the newest edition and the one I know the least about. The other four are all really good, but it of course depends on your study track. If you're interested in the sciences, then NTNU is going to be the best. If you're interested in maths, it would be Bergen or Trondheim. If you're not looking for a purely academic degree, and are looking for a degree that leads more directly into a job, then you want to go to a college (høgskole). Which ones are good depend on the programme. Generally, the ones in larger cities will be better, but it's hard to generalize. You should, however, consider what you can do with a høgskole degree if you cannot find a job in Norway. Any job that requires authorization in the US will look carefully at your foreign education. They might or might not accept it, or they might only accept part of it. Do not assume anything here. You are allowed to file for a new permit from inside the country if you've been legally residing here the past 9 months despite what Ibu claims. You also need a minimum of a bachelor's degree to qualify as a skilled worker. Norwegian isn't mandatory either. However, it can make it difficult or essentially impossible to find a job depending on your field. It can also have little to no bearing on your ability to find a job. Anyway, as far as jobs go, it's really hard to predict. If you don't mind making your living pipetting microlitres into vials all day every day, you can go for bio-engineering (basically a lab tech +. People say it can get interesting eventually, but it's a monotonous job to start with and will be for several years). The oil industry is traditionally a high growth field. A master's in library science is a ticket to a good job with good pay believe it or not. You want to be flexible where you're willing to live if you want a job. There are shortages up north if you're willing to take a job there. You also have to do your best to build professional connections while you're in school. There was a recent survey done of why students return to their own country when they're finished with studies, and lack of job is a huge reason (excluding those who always planned on returning of course).

Norway is a very small country with very few jobs. And student visas are temporary non-immigration class of visas. If you go to school in Norway, you will return home immediately upon completion or termination of studies. And you must be fluent in Norwegian to get into uni, qualify for student visa. And of course, if you ever had the advanced degrees, experience, and expertise to apply for jobs in Norway, you'd have to be fluent in Norwegian. You need to get started learning Norwegian before you do anything else.
