Good luck. Facebook has more inactive users that active users. You best bet is to un-friend everyone on your account, change you password to something you will easily forget, so you can no longer sign in. They do not charge you a fee, because they point to there member list and show how large it is, then sell adverts to people who want to get in front of you, sort of like Yahoo-----> see that ad over there:) They pay the bill for all of Yahoos employees, and you get it for free. Like TV commercials on Network TV. Facebook will remember you forever, because they have you listed as an active member and they tell advertisers they reach a bazillion households. It is counter productive for them to strike your name from that list, especially if you fall into the age bracket that advertisers really want to reach. Under 18 and you don't have much money to spend, over 49 or so, and you don't spend money on crap. If you want to avoid email updates, delete your friends, change your status to all blanks. If you log in 3 years later, they will still have your record.
