How can you tell if baby has pneumonia?

  • My daughter developed a cold on the 15th and had a armpit temp. of 100.7 I gave her medicine and it went away she also had a cough and a lot of boogers and when she coughs it sounds ...show more

  • Answer:

For starters the fever would be much higher, and she would have trouble breathing. She has a cold, nothing more. Having said that, any time you are unsure whether your child needs to see a doctor right away, simply call the doctor and ask. Even outside of office hours you'll get an answering machine message that tells you what number to call for after hours care.

My son had walking pneumonia. If she's had a fever and cough for more then three days take her in to get checked. My sons temp was only 100.3 when I took him to the hospital, he still had it. The doctors said his lungs didnt sound bad, but he could see it in his right lung on the x-ray. If youre worried, get her checked.

You don't say how old she is. If she's old enough to answer, ask her if her chest hurts. Pneumonia can also cause stomach pain (typically if the infection is located at the bottom of the lungs). If she is complaining of this, or is too young to tell you but is spending a lot of time in foetal position, this is indicative, though not conclusive, of a chest infection. The most obvious, although its not universal, symptom of pneumonia will be "sucking" of the chest where you can visibly see the skin being sucked in with each breath. Pneumonia sounds scary, but like all infections, it doesn't necessarily require treatment. That said, if she is very sick, is struggling to breath or is in pain or you are concerned for any reason, see your doctor.

You call the pediatrician for advice, if its night call urgent care. My daughter got 104 degree fevers and it was not pneumonia some babies do get fevers if your gums were bothering you your nose would be itchy too its all part of a whole. Pneumonia is a constant cough and phlegm in the lungs hold the baby close to you and listen to the lungs do they sound clogged or wheezing? call urgent care now and talk to them. You do not say how old your daughter is if less than 12 months call them now.
