How did you support yourself for 3 years with no income? Doesn't sound legitimate. Probably working under the table for cash. Even with no income, you should have filed taxes. You don't get a refund if they deny your application.

You have to file whether you owe taxes or not. But you can file the returns you must show retroactively. I suggest you hire an accountant to get you right with the IRS before you apply for citizenship.
