Do you need an expensive camera to take decent looking photos?

I want to take some great photos to put online to sell clothing but I can't afford an expensive camera. Can I take decent photos with a cheaper camera?

Answer:
Just about any camera will be good enough to take pictures for Ebay. Ken Rockwell recommends the Nikon 3100 as a low cost, excellent camera. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm If you have a cell phone with at least a 2 to 3 megapixel camera, that is more than enough. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/under-50-dollars.htm

Use anything except a cellphone camera. Sure an entry level DSLR would be good, but almost any cheap point and shoot will do for half decent photos for a website. Oh, and get a tripod - it will totally improve your shots. Avoid using the on camera flash. Think about the lighting (use diffuse lighting), and use a plain white backdrop. Use the camera's self timer (when it's on a tripod obviously) to eliminate camera shake. The problem with all cellphone cameras is that the sensor is too small, causing excessive digital noise, especially in low light situations, and poor quality images, and the optics are too crappy to get sharp images, and fitting them to a tripod is rather awkward.

No, you just need to know the tricks. But an expensive camera would help.

nO but you have to take lots of pictures to get the best one. in college they let me use a camra that if they move fast I can take the picture of them as though they were not moving fast. God bless you in Jesus name Amen.

Nope. I can use a little $800 dSLR to shoot any of my assignments, but I cannot expect it to last seven years under the pounding I give my $5,300 Nikon D3. Since all fully adjustable cameras work just the same, the photographer balancing ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture to produce brilliant images, it does not matter which one you pick really, just as long as the system has all the lenses you may need to shoot your subjects It is NOT about the camera, but the skills and experience of the photographer... You cannot buy that

I have seen some UNBELIEVABLE pictures taken from peoples cell phones and NOT your expensive ones either! You can also take great pictures using an ipad and other forms of tech. A Kodak EasyShare is the camera I have and it takes great pictures also! You can go on Ebay and look for a good camera also as there are many with high pixels. You know how much you can afford so it's your call but many times you get what you pay for and you want something durable that will stand the test of time and not die in quick time after a few pics. Good Luck!
