What are some good sites to submit amateur digital Photography for Contests?

There are dozens of photography magazines published every month and many of them carry photographic competitions. Most of them also encourage readers to send in their photos for publication and critique.

This is one of those "it depends" answers. What do you want out of the contests? Prizes, or legitimate recognition for your talents? Unfortunately, a lot, if not most, of the contests are not for the benefit of the photographers. Companies offer a couple great prizes, with the intention of getting thousands of people to submit their images. Then when you don't win the lottery, by entering, you have given away your rights to the image, and may not legally be able to use it yourself. There are legitimate companies out there that run contests, and they are usually serious photography oriented, magazines, camera manufacturers, professional photographer oriented organizations. All I can suggest is define your reasons, and be very careful to read all that legal fine print before you submit your images. You may be the one whose beautiful image ends up in a multi-million dollar ad campaign, and all you got was the knowledge of how great a shot it was, but nothing else.
