I have an old tv right now and have to use a converter box with outside antenna If I get an HDTV flat screen do I still need box

you will need a TV with an HD tuner inside otherwise you will need a converter box and an hdmi cable , many "HD" tvs are HD capable but don't have the HD tuner built in they may be described as "HD ready"

No box needed, but you will need an antenna for HD signals. Price runs $10 to much, much more than that. If you live in town, close to the transmitters, the $10 model should do just fine. If you are in a rural area, you may need to spend more on a better antenna.
