  • Answer:

Enter your System Preferences. A screen will pop-up with a list of options. Find the one that reads, "Users & Groups". Then, head down to the little "lock" in the bottom left hand corner. Hit it twice, and enter your password when prompted to. Then, you can change the name to whatever you want!! "Olaf", "Marty McFly", "Severus Snape", "Sheldon Cooper", or even "Billy Bob Joe"!

The top of the "Finder bar" does not show anyone's name. It shows what you have selected in the Finder, such as a drive, partition, folder, or file. Create a new use account. Boot to single-user mode (hold command and the S key for 45 seconds at startup). [All typing commands that follow require strict adherence to the exact spelling. This includes noticing where there is a space between characters and where there is no space.] Type: /sbin/mount -uw / Press Return. {Nothing appears to happen, no problem.} Type: cd /users Press Return. Type: ls Press Return. {You see the user account folder names -- "Shared" plus any that were created. Write down any that were created.} Type: rm /var/db/.applesetupdone Press Return. Type: reboot Press Return. {Now stuff appears to happen.} Setup Assistant appears. Create a new account, but be sure to choose a different short name than that of the original [[short name is the name of the user account folder that you wrote down]]. Then open System Preferences > Users & Groups (or "Accounts" for older systems). Click the padlock icon, type your new password, select the old account, and then click the - sign to remove it. <0-0>
