Which is the best single core processor family?

1.7Ghz Dual core or 1.2Ghz quad core ? which processor is best for speed as well as gaming?

Do your games use more than one core? What are the benchmarks between the two processors? That will tell you which one is faster overall, and which has faster cores. Clock speed doesn't tell you anything about how fast a processor is. I'd use a website like CPU Boss and compare measurements of the two processors, especially the single core benchmark.

Gaming (only 1 or 2 things running simultaneously) will probably work better with the 1.7 dual... However... If you want to run more than 2 things simultaneously (game, skype, browser, music) then I reccomend the 1.2 GHz quad core
