For those professional applications I would suggest a professional screen like a Dell U2713HM IPS monitor (2560x1440) but really I think you need a new laptop if it's crashing and only got 512Mb of RAM and an i3 especially if it's a few years old and you are running very demanding programs and wanting more screen real estate.
