Why doesnt a hdmi to vga cable work?

  • Answer:

Unlike HDMI, DVI connectors can carry both a digital signal and an analog signal. Most likely, you're using a device that can use either signal, so the DVI to VGA cable is really just physically wiring a VGA connector to the analog pins on the DVI-I connector. On the other hand, HDMI doesn't support an analog signal, so a cable like that would require it to perform an analog to digital or digital to analog conversion. There are devices like that, but they're usually much more expensive than a DVI to VGA adapter.
