honestly there are not enough clues to say what's going on.. my guess is that the new microphone was muted or was NOT set as the default source.. go to the Desktop and right click on the speaker icon (the small speaker icon at the right lower corner of the desktop that we usually adjust the volume from).. when you right click the icon, there should be a menu.. click on 'Recording devices", the modern computers can have multiple source for sound recording, for example my laptop has an inbuilt microphone but I often use a USB camera equipped with its own microphone.. at the same time, I occasionally use a Bluetooth headset.. so my windows can detect three different sources of sound or three microphones: the laptop inbuilt microphone, the USB camera and a Bluetooth headset.. and I need to change the default device when moving on to a different microphone.. after you click on 'recording devices,, you should get a list of recording devices that is or was connected to your computer.. at one time, your windows has decided on one of them to be the primary or the active recording device (the Default device).. remember I said your problem could be from the fact that the headset was not set as a 'Default device', but before we set your headset to be the default device or the primary microphone.. BUT FIRST.. I need you to RIGHT click on an empty white box area beneath the message "select a recording device below to modify its settings:" and I need you to tick ON or switch ON both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".. if both those options are ticked off, your headset may be hidden because it could be listed as a disabled or disconnected.. in the list of all devices (including active, disabled and disconnected devices), simply RIGHT click on what you think is your desirable device, and click "Set as Default device" and if your device is for some reason has been "Disabled", you may need to click "Enable" first.. if your headset is disconnected, for example - you are using a Bluetooth headset.. right click on it and click "Connect".. if your headset is NOT a Bluetooth device, you can skip the next two paragraphs about Bluetooth headsets and Bluetooth devices.. unfortunately, my experience with Bluetooth headsets is filled with failed attempts and disappointments.. so if your computer fails to reconnect to your Bluetooth headset.. please go to the Bluetooth options at the Settings by moving the mouse to the right upper corner of the screen, click on "Settings" , followed by clicking on "Change PC settings" at the bottom.. click on "PC and devices" on the left side of the monitor and click on "Bluetooth" again at the left side of the screen.. on the right side of the screen, locate the name of your Bluetooth headset, click on it and click on "Remove" and confirm the removal of the Bluetooth device with "yes".. then press the button on the Bluetooth device in the discovery mode (you may need to read the Bluetooth device documentations).. the name of the device should appear momentarily of which you make a fresh new connection.. this problem and solution is very common in other devices like iOS and Android tablets.. we often need to delete the profile of the Bluetooth device and create a new profile in order for it to work.. sometimes the computer remembers several devices that was connected to in the past (for example several headsets from different makes and brands) that may confuse you which Headset icon is your desired device.. I had several different headsets connected to my laptop and they all have the big title "Headset" with smaller gray titles that can offer me more clues like "Android", "Samsung", "Monster" etc.. if there are more than one options that could be your headset.. simply choose one headset and test the recording sound.. and move on to the next if you fail to get a response from the chosen device.. if the microphone is working properly and the sound level was correct, you should see green bars dancing when you start talking into the microphone.. if the green bars remain gray and static, it could be: A) the device is muted, reduced its volume recording level to almost none, Disabled or not working properly B) you got the wrong device icon in (A) right click on the device and click "Properties".. under the "General" tab, you may see "Controller information", of which you can the "Properties" button.. if there is a problem in your sound recording device, it will give the message that the device is in conflict with other devices or simply "not working properly" of which you may need to bring the computer to a computer expert to fix it.. some computers allow you to choose which jack or socket that the microphone is connected to.. so under the "General" tab, you may see "Jack information" of more than one jack.. for example my desktop computer has three jacks or connectors at the back "Green, Blue and Red".. the Red jack is usually the recording one, while the Green jack is usually for external speakers and headphones.. so make sure you choose the red recording jack.. but you can try and use other jacks, like the Blue Jack.. under the "Levels" tab, the recording level may be set at low or at mute, you simply increase the Microphone to 90%.. and I advice you not to mess with the Microphone boost.. you are free to explore other tabs that you may find "Listen", "Enhancement" and "advance" but I doubt it would solve your problem.. in (B) you simply move on to the next device that bears the name "Headset"
