I was thinking of making a minecraft server sometime, but I need to know the risk of running one with my ip address as the connection for players to log in. I know how to change that ...show more

There is no risk. A domain name (like www.google.com) is an open alias of an IP address (192.185.161.215). From the domain name you can find out what IP address it directs to, it doesn't give any security whatsoever. For example, on a Windows computer you can: 1. Press windows key+r 2. Type "cmd" (no quotes) in the window that appears 3. In the black window that appears, type "nslookup www.google.com" and it'll tell you the IP address of Google's server. You can change www.google.com out for anything you like and it'll tell you the IP of it. The only reason domains exist is to make it easier for people to remember how to get to different websites.
