Answer:
I said I don't have phitoshop and I already used the free trial and I'm not buying it just to add text to a few images. I appreciate the answer, but I stated this in my question. I want to get GIMP (since it's free) but I don't know if the image will be able to be transparent. I am going to try saving in SAI as a transparent png then open that in GIMP, add the text, then save it , but will it still be transparent?

Use adobe photoshop and save your file after writing text on it with PNG format. Save as PNG to have transparent text. For more info www.bapugraphics.com
