Is it possible to find out if a recipient has opened my message?

Why did the kik message dissapear?

I took out my phone and seen the notification that i got a message from someone thats not on my contact list but when i opened kik the message was gone and i cant find that person ...show more

I have had this happen to me before, and the best I can gather is that they added you by mistake becuase the contact they were looking for had a similar screen name. They sent you a greeting message, and when they figured out you werent the friend they were looking for, they deleted you and effectively deleted the message that they sent you. Unfortunately it still pings your system to tell you that you have a message, but there is nothing there.
