Craigslist Seller - Sold TV guy wants to return it?, what to do?

I sold a 50" TV in great condition last night for 300 dollars. It was at 1080p and only a year old. It's not the best quality of all HDTV's just because it's ...show more

Answer:
I would not give him the money back unless you want to. Two things - you might advise him to use an HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV if he is not using one - second be sure to tell him that ALL flat screen TV's have terrible sound especially in a larger room.

Tell him all sales are final. You sold the TV in good conscience and made every effort to verify that it was in working condition. You have no way of knowing what this guy has done to the TV. He might have dropped it down the stairs, and now wants his money back for his clumsiness for all you know. If the placement of the speakers was a deal breaker for the buyer, he should have been more diligent about checking where they are located before he bought the TV. Once money changed hands, and he walked away with the TV, the deal was done and the TV is his. Tell him he can go on Craigslist and sell the TV for $350. Maybe he'll get lucky.

Chances are he connected an older standard definition cable box to the HDTV and surprise surprise, the video looks bad. If he's running coax cable from wall, to box, and from the box to the TV, then yeah, its not going to look great. He needs either a component cable or HDMI to get HD signals. Having worked for a small cable company 7 years ago, I would often get people complaining that HD looked no different than their old service and I could easily see that they had no HD Cable Box on their account.

in the future don't give out your email. then you won't have to deal with this. You can use the generated email created by craigslist to avoid giving it out (in the future) you could lie... -Tell him you were selling the tv for someone else who was leaving the country and you already gave them their money. -I just used the money to cover rent for this month. I don't have it to give you a refund. -Tell him the ad said 'as is' (make sure the post is deleted) -Just ignore his emails
