    Our Golf MK4 had similar if not identical issue 2 years ago but we had no code. The car would drive just but suddenly lost power. Release the gas petal instantly, wait for a second and then step on it again will be fine. It happened twice on different days. Nobody was able to tell why so I did some investigation myself and determined it was the fuel pump gasket that was badly deteriorated and broken down into pieces swimming in the fuel and clogged the pump. I ended up cleaning both the pump and the tank completely and it has been trouble free since. The good news is I could reuse the fuel w/o any side effect. Just filtered it with paper paint filter would do. If it was given to the shop, they would probably try to change the pump itself. I know this happened to a few owners and their problem persisted.

It is either a fuel problem, or an ignition problem. Isolate that first. Clean the throttle body, and do a tune up. Change the fuel filter, make sure the injection system is super clean. No codes? hmmm. That's a tough one.

Fuel pump seems to be the problem, as far as I can see(to the monitor) Take it to a "smarter mechanic" which is some old dude who has repaired cars all his life. Describe your problem exactly as it occurs including weather conditions and whether you are travelling at high speed and whether the road was uphill all the way; or you were trying to parallel park your car or what. All the information is important. It also may be water in the fuel tank(which is an easy fix). I canna say fur shoore.
