Answer:
Well, I don't know about the other countries, but foreign tourists tend to complain about restaurants and other services cheating on them in my homeland Hungary. I would say, forget the tourist guide websites. Here is my advice I usually tell people visiting us (and it might work for the other countries, too.) 1. Get a Hungarian friend. 2. Make previous calculations as to how much you are planning to spend. 3. Together with your Hungarian friend, find the best exchange rate, at middle/average of buy-rate and sell-rate. 4. Based on your previous calculations, give your friend as much of your Dollars or Euros that would surely cover your highest estimated expenses. DO NOT change your money yet, -- only leave it with your Hungarian friend in deposit. 5. Use the Forints of your Hungarian friend and keep the invoices everywhere so you can exactly calculate your actual expenses. 6. At the end, only change as much as your Hungarian friend needs back in Forints (if he does not choose to just keep the Euros after all.) Extra TIPP (may be useful): - DO NOT go out alone and use services without help of a native. Some restaurants, cabbies etc may try to cheat you on the prises when they realize you are not sure how much is fair. Also the ticket control on public transportation uses quite agressive and pushy people sometimes. They will even try to force you to pay extra fees by threatening you with the police. TO GET A BETTER DEAL, than risking to be cheated, invite your Hungarian friend to as many places you go as possible. Tell him to take you to HIS WELL-KNOWN REGULAR PLACES on your expense. You pay (at the final count), but let him do the paying/bargaining/tippping part and talk to the waiters, drivers, guards etc in Hungarian.
