Why does the philippines use diesel power plants?

These are very old plants and we have to give these companies credit for maintaining them well enabling operability up to this time. They run on bunker fuel, whose cost at that time was probably around 75 USD per ton; now it is more than double. The latest cheap and clean fuel is natural gas. If the government is to put additional power generation units up natural gas is the way to go. No coal-it is a major cause of pollution.

They are using those diesel powerplants everywhere not in just Cebu & Davao because when they was installed diesel was cheap& plentiful as well as the engines themselves. The LNG, propane & Natural gas is not cheap or plentiful in the quantities needed. They are having the brown outs because the equipment is overloaded with too many customers & not enough power plants.
