  • Answer:

When I was a kid and played roller hockey I always took out the inner wheels, and only skated on the two outer wheels. I never noticed a difference and than the wheels would last me twice as long.

Stick blade doesn't really need tape, especially if using an ABS type blade (all blades are going to wear down eventually but those are more durable / cost-effective than wood and especially carbonfibre), but if you insist, look up the Erik Cole taping method on youtube as it will prevent friction somewhat. (ps: I use regular hockey tape because that's what I have the most of. Duct tape looks tacky.) As for your wheels, chances are you have " recreational skating " wheels on it which aren't made for hockey. They also need to be rotated on a regular basis depending on wear (inside / outside) as that helps a lot with keeping them stable. Depending on your weight you should be looking at wheels that are 80 to 84 hardness for durability without sacrificing grip and speed. What size - depends on your skates and what kind of rocker you are comfortable with. I personally use Hyper for asphalt / concrete, but then again haven't bought new outdoor wheels in a couple years.

I played a lot of street hockey growing up, the thing that we found best was actually duct take, it was much more resistant than most official hockey tapes or electrical tapes, Using medical tape also works pretty well. As for the wheels I have no honest idea!!
