Volunteer Work abroad.

Where to volunteer/work abroad?

  • I would like to work and/or volunteer abroad this fall but I can only find programs where I need to pay. I don't understand why I need to pay to volunteer my time. Does anyone ...show more

  • Answer:

The reason you have to pay is actually because you are someone that the local people are training. You may think you are contributing everything to them, but actually they are supporting you through health, safety, cultural training, assisting you if you get sick while you are abroad, paying for liability insurance in case you do fall into an emergency situation, and hiring out staff to make sure your orientations and free time are organized in a meaningful way. So unless you are a doctor, engineer, or have other skills that are highly needed by a developing country, you can expect that you will have to pay for meals, accommodation, and staff that will be there for you. Our volunteering program is free: www.socialtreknepal.com We are a small NGO, so you'd only have to pay for your own meals and accommodation (in Khandbari, Eastern Nepal where we are located). Get in touch if you have any questions!
