Answer:
Most pre-med degrees (biology, chemistry, etc) are considered "useless" by many because they are just avenues to higher learning. What you learn isn't all that useful ... it just qualifies you to become a graduate level student. More important than what you learn in college is how you learn it and training your mind to work better. That being said it doesn't really matter what you major in if your goal is medical school. All that matters is that you take the pre-reqs (biology, chemistry, physics, organic chem, math up to calc, statistics, and your gen eds). And then the MCAT of course. My advice would be to major in whatever suits your interest and you think you will do the best in. Who cares how much you love neuro if you end up getting a 3.2GPA in it ... might as well do biology and get a 3.5 giving you a shot at med school.

Your major is immaterial. Major in whatever interests you. You need an advisor to guide you, not random people on the internet. Whatever you major in, you will need a crazy high GPA, so make sure it's something you think you will do well in. Take the prerequisites for med school, study your butt off for the MCAT, and have some volunteer work and extracurricular activities. http://www.studentdoctor.net/ might be of interest to you.

Talk to your academic advisor regarding the prerequisites, which, as far as I know, are: a year each of; chemistry, zoology or anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, embryology, physics, advanced mathematics (calculus). Neuroscience is great, but you'll still have to do all the prerequisites. Depending on the medical school, you'll very likely have to take several of the same courses as above, but at a faster rate and more in-depth.
