First step is to work for a college newspaper, second work for professionally weekly newspaper, third step daily newspaper. If you're talented enough move to a bigger circulated daily newspaper. When you take your vacation ask the editor if the feature department would like a travel story. Most likely they will. Write the story. Then submit travel stories to magazines, since most travel stories are written by experienced freelance writers with a lot of talent, drive, and social skills.
