What happens if u put the wrong zip code?

What happens if i put the wrong zip code but right address on a usps package?

  • I seriously did this (stupid I know) and the Zip codes are in the same city. Someone please help me

  • Answer:

I am in the UK and we use Post codes, not Zip codes, but same principle. The automatic reader that deals with hundreds of post items a minute would send it to the post code you put on the letter assuming it was a valid code. If not it would have been put on one side for human attention where the mistake would be spotted. If it is sent to the code you put, the people who receive it will put it back in the pillar box marked with the right code if they know it,or just point out the code is wrong.

With luck, the sorter at the post office will look at the written address instead of the postal code.

If the street address is unique within the city, then the post office may deliver it anyways. Otherwise they'll send it back to back to you, postage due. If you have a tracking number you *MAY* be able to tell the post office the correct zip code.
