    Most so-called Australian beer (Fosters, for example) is brewed in the UK and few Australians drink it. Australian beers are mostly lagers (mock pilsners), although there is a growing number of craft brewers catering for the needs of those Australians who actually enjoy the taste of beer (Fosters, Castlemaine, Tooheys have no taste other than that of ice-cold fizziness). One of the best is Coopers and one of the more recent contenders for flavoursome beer is Little Creatures. That doesn't mean that good beers are the most popular in Australia; as in most other countries the most popular beers are the widely-advertised chemical fizz rubbish brewed by the mass-market manufacturers. Fortunately discerning drinkers are switching from this kind of rubbish in many countries, Australia being one.

Beer is either a lager or an ale. The difference is ale is warm fermented with a specifics type of yeast and lager is low temperature fermented with a specific type of yeast.

Some others are Castlemaine XXXX called "four x" (at one point it outsold victoria). Toohey's is another that is said to have some following. A lot of Australians will tell you that Foster's is NOT Australian for beer, but VB is sold under the Foster's Group (by CUB Carlton and United Breweries). But the Foster's beer itself is not so popular.
