How much gas does a BBQ use?

I have a propane gas bottle for what we use for BBQ, it is a large bottle, i have used it a few times now for when we have had a BBQ.?

    All above answers will work, for the most part. However the easiest weigh is if you have a bathroom scale or something similar. Look on the collar of the tank (the part with the handle that you pick it up by). There is a lot of information stamped onto it, but what you're looking for are the letters "TW" followed by a number (usually about 16-18 for your standard "grill bottles"). That number is the Tare Weight of your tank, or in other words it's the weight of just the tank if it's empty. Anything on top of that Tare Weight is how much gas you have. Your typical grill bottle holds about 20 pounds of gas, so filled weight will be between 36 and 38 pounds, depending on the tank's tare.

Dump water on the bottle. Where it freezes, that's how much gas you have left.

You can also learn to pick the bottle up and tap it. An almost empty bottle will sound like a bell. But spraying water on the side while it is being used is one way to see the level. They also sell cheap strips of plastic that change color at the level.

You can buy a gauge, but they are notoriously inaccurate. Pour some water down the side of the tank; where it condenses is the level of propane left in the tank. EDIT: BTW, what you want to measure is the amount of LIQUID propane in the tank; it only becomes a gas at atmospheric pressure, i.e., when it reaches the burners.
