What A levels would be ideal to study medicine?

What courses should I take for A levels to study medicine?

  • Answer:

You should take something that shows you have the ability to communicate and express information, an essay subject like English literature or History is always a good choice. I'm currently doing my AS exams in chemistry, biology, psychology and sociology, in the hopes of studying psychology at uni, and I've been told that my subject choices are very good, although sociology is a waste of time. My future career path is closely linked with health care professionalism, so you could use my choices as a basis for yours. Also, I would advise taking 3 subjects rather than four if one of them will be an essay subject, even the top universities have an entry requirement of 3 A levels, so there is no real benefit of taking a fourth unless you want one as a backup in case you don't pass one of the others.

You can always take an essay based subject like History or English literature. If you're going to choose Psychology or Japanese, choose it as your AS subject and not one of your A2 subjects. I find it quite hillarious that potential medical students say that taking 3 A-level science subject is a too much; do you realise that in medical school you will be studying 5-6 degree level science subjects every semester? And you will be getting examined on them at the end of each academic year?
