What should schools teach?

Schools teach us "what to think" over "how to think"?

  • I believe schools should teach us "how to think" not what to think. I believe that no school should teach GOD and no school should teach EVOLUTION as fact. I believe in God ...show more

  • Answer:

Apparently your school hasn't taught evolution very well. It doesn't say that animals change species overnight or just give birth to a whole other species like you seem to believe. It happens over time. It is fact, unlike God.

The point of grade school and secondary schools is to teach facts. Evolution is a fact. God is not. The object of a college education used to be to teach people to think and find facts for themselves, but unfortunately much of college is now remedial.

No, I don't agree. You are an ignorant fool.

In America, with local control of schools, the more Republican districts will teach kids what to think because the parents in those localities want their kids to do as their told. There's no need to think for them to think - they should just do as they're told! That's what God teaches - do as I tell you! So whoever owns the interpretation of what God says, controls the whole thing. In America, fundamentalist Protestant Christians who are infected with the American Disease - scientific illiteracy and Biblical inerrancy - believe that they own this cosmic interpretation but it's just an aberration and will soon pass (provided we don't exterminate ourselves first).

You are right on some point but in order to "how to think", we require the knowledge of "what to think". If you know "what to think", then you can analyse on your imagination that what you are thinking and then is their other possible ways to think on that thinking. In this second case, "how to think" theory will require. So the conclusion is that both the ways are linked with each other but they occur in a sequence.

You are frightened. You are afraid that accepting the evidence of evolution will mean you have to give up your belief in God, and then life will have no meaning. That's not true. Many scientists believe in God. It's easier to believe that some being put the process of evolution into motion than it is to blindly believe that the world has only existed for 10,000 years, which is what some Christian fundamentalists want you to believe.

!00 years ago people believed what they were told to or they burned them. as for now, families introduce you to religion, schools teach the rest. It is each individuals right to fit them both into a place for themselves so they can be be rewarding and helpful in every day life. Often (like with anything rewarding ) it is a journey to get to that peaceful place. That is why it is good to have both. The past was not a good place to be,simple, yes. safe ? no.Please think about what you mean a while, billions of people in many religions have died because they wanted to believe how they felt not as dictated. Who REALLY has the right to dictate ? You? Be happy for what you believe and that others have what they believe, and learn what you can in school /church(?) so you can make informed decisions. Take care & be safe and happy
