  • Answer:

To tell you the truth, kindergarten teachers don't make that much money anywhere in the United States. You might make more than the nations average because you live in Los Angeles, but your living expenses cancel all that out because living in LA is a hell of a lot of money. The fact is that substitute teachers make the same amount or maybe even more than kindergarten teachers. Kindergarten teachers make about $35-$40 grand a year starting out, and substitute teachers make around $30 grand as well. You may get a salary raise every 2-3 years, but your salary will not go above $50 grand. Teaching itself is a low paying job, especially if you are teaching elementary with no masters degree, just an associates degree. If you decide to get your Masters, and PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), then you can become a college professor, and make a good $100,000 per year starting. But that is a long long path to study. Your undergraduates will be 4 years, then masters is 2 years minimum, then your PhD could take lots of time depending on how fast you work.
