Can a parent take out a student loan unbeknownst to their child?

Basically as stated above - can a parent (whom is paying for your education) take out a student loan unbeknownst to said student? If a loan was taken out, would it have to be signed ...show more

Parents can take out loans in their own name and with their own signature. If you have not signed it, you are not responsible for it

I don't know if it can be done without the knowledge of the student... parent plus loans are signed by the parent (and do not have to be used for school, can be used to cover the student's living expenses.. for example the portion of the cost when the student lives at home)
