  Canadian medical schools require you to complete a four year bachelor's degree in order to apply. You must also have extremely high marks in your undergraduate degree, meet certain prerequisite courses (typically math, biology, chemistry, and biochemistry), complete a series of tests known as MCATs (which test these subjects), and you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Some medical schools give priority to those with previous residency within the province. You don't need a bachelor's of science. The exact undergraduate degree does not matter. It could be arts, science, engineering, linguistics, business, etc. As long as it is a four year degree. However, some degrees make it hard (or impossible) to take the prerequisites (without taking additional courses) or pass the MCATs. A bachelor's in science (typically in biology or biochemistry) is common, but many schools like a wide variety of degrees since many aspects of the medical profession involve different disciplines -- business, civics, research, etc. Most undergraduate degrees in Canada are transferable to different universities as are individual courses. In the rare case, you might have an issue with whether specific courses are acceptable as prerequisites. Whether you get your bachelor's degree does not usually matter. Often, you will be applying to multiple universities when applying for you undergraduate and usually multiple medical schools once you have your undergraduate degree. Typically, you'll stay in province, due to the residency requirements of some medical schools. Costs also tend to make it useful if you are able to live at home. Seven years of schooling gets expensive.
