  • Answer:

OK, Medi-cal isn't insurance, it's welfare. Covered California, is also a welfare program. To get welfare, you have to be very, very poor. However it is that you are paying for college - gifts, grants, scholarships, loans, THAT money, counts as income TO YOU, and will disqualify you from welfare. When you live at home, then they count HOUSEHOLD assets and income, not just YOUR assets and income. Do mom and dad own that house? Yeahhh . . . that's going to disqualify you. Do each of you own a car? That's going to disqualify you as well. Generally you have to have less than $500 in the bank, and less than $2000 in total assets - including your car, clothes, etc. And again, your income is too high - even if it's income you don't see, but is given to you via scholarships, grants, or gift money. Plan B - give up your college social life, and get a full time job overnights doing ANYTHING. You'll have a lot more money, and you'll be able to pay for insurance. And yes, you CAN carry up to 21 credits in college and work 40 hours a week. Lots of kids do it.

There is no limit. It is based only on income, not on savings. You could have a million dollars and still qualify.
