  I'm sorry to tell you but your husband's "friend" is a conman and thief. You provided the vehicle and transfer documents to this "friend" and he had the vehicle put in his name and sold it. This in legal terms is called a "Confidence Game". Contact the police and report all details. They will be able to enter the vehicle numbers in the computer system and it will be listed as a stolen vehicle. Then when and attempt the register the vehicle or if it is stopped by the police for any reason it might be returned or justice might be served in another way.
