Answer:
The title is correct. Why did you even bother with a carfax ?

CarFax is far from perfect, don't trust it. Be scared of the damage which maybe still hidden under all the new sheet metal and shinny new paint.

It's pretty obvious this has been in an accident, but the owner/dealer/whatever was able to cover it up from carfax. I found out the hard way the frame sometimes gets bent in accidents, and it screws the whole car up! At least have a mechanic who isn't affiliated with the dealership take a look underneath and make sure everything's okay.

Salvage title means among other things the value is 1/2 -2/3 blue book value, no more. Sense it is totaled once you can only put liability insurance on the vehicle and all wrecks/body damage are on you to correct. They are great for work vehicles, the dents and dings are no issue. Or for a winter beater truck when the roads are a mess.

Carfax and salvageweb.com are not the be-all-and-end-all final word that their ads claim they are. The title is the final word. Carfax and Salvageweb (and other similar places) are services open to the public, and they're fairly good services, but they're not the official word. Reporting accidents or major problems to them is purely volunatary, not a requirement. If the title says a vehicle is salvage or rebuilt, it is. You don't need any other verification than that, because that's the final word.

if it is being sold and represented as a salvaged vehicle, whats the problem? salvage title is not something to fear. you get the vehicle cheaper, its harder to sell. if you plan on driving it, no biggie. some you obviously stay away from, like flood cars. but still no biggie. i bought a 5.0 yrs ago, it was rebuilt, whole passenger side. only noticeable problem over like 11 yrs was the door was a little harder to open and shut. wasnt listed on the title, wasnt listed on carfax. now want to know the kicker? i toyed with the idea of selling, and nobody cared because the title was clean!

Steer clear of that one. Carfax doesn't always have the facts. Most of the time, if insurance or a dealership wasn't involved in salvaging and rebuilding a wrecked vehicle then Carfax won't catch it.

Remember the art of a deal.. always be willing to walk away. This one has regret written all over it.
