Answer:
Stay away from luxury cars, they are money pits. You can get more car for your money with an American car. 7 years ago I was getting out of the car business and needed a car. There were only 2 at the small dealer auction that I was interested in. The first one was a 94 Honda Accord with 155k miles but it was really nice. I really wanted it and was willing to pay $28 which was more than it was worth. My backup car was a 94 Buick Century. The century wasn't as nice but it was clearly a low mileage car with just 62,000 miles. So, the Honda went thru first, I tried to start the bidding high to scare away other bidders. I started the bidding at $25 and before I could bid again, it was $3400 and I said no. It ended up going for $3550+ buyers fee of probably $225=$3775.. I ended up buying the low mileage buick for just $1775+100 buyers fee=$1875. So I got the same year model car with 93,000 less miles for less than half what the Honda cost.

Daily driver. Honda civic. Its great om gas and cheap. This way u have plenty of left over money to invest in ur bmw. And the value of civics dont go down as fast as other cars cause people are always looking for them.

Pree-owned Japanese Honda Civic or Korean Hyundai will be good investments !

If you are looking for inexpensive cars that are simple to repair I would buy a basic, pre 1975 American car. A Ford or a Chevy. Simple to work on, cheap parts, cheap cars to buy. The reason I say pre-1975 is because cars were much simpler back then. They didn't have all these government regulations for emissions, no ABS brakes, no computer controlled electronic ignitions, very simple engineering but they were economical, and easy to work on. They ain't pretty and they ain't that safe to drive but they are good solid cars that run well when properly maintained (which you said you can do).
