Whats "French Revolution" in French?

Whats the point of The french revolution and Napoleon.?

  • Can you explain it in a summary

  • Answer:

The point of the revolution was to redress the inequalities in society, in which the peasants starved and were taxed highly, whereas the royal court and the nobles were a hotbed of luxurious living. Napoleon hijacked the French nation after the revolution, and wanted to make France the leading nation in Europe, with domination over much of Europe. He failed.

The original point was to overthrow the old aristocratic system that was exploiting and impoverishing the people, and to replace it with a more democratic republican type of government. However, it degenerated into a rule of terror (c.v. the Soviet Union) and in-fighting between factions. Napoleon brought order, and then tried to export the revolution to other countries by invading them. Unfortunately he became corrupt, placing his relatives in charge of various countries, and obsessed with power, as when he had himself made Emperor. Disastrously, he tried to invade Russia. He was overthrown, imprisoned, but escaped and gathered a popular army before being finally defeated by Wellington at Waterloo. The monarchy was re-imposed on France by the victorious powers, but it was weak and unpopular and eventually collapsed. Napoleon himself was again imprisoned, this time on the South Atlantic island of St Helena, from which there was no escape.
