In 1858 there was a failed attempt to assassinate Napoleon III and Cavour and Napoleon had a secret meeting at Plombieres in July of that year with an agreement between Napoleon III and Cavour to go to war against Austria. Several battles ensued: Magenta; Sorlerino. There was the Treaty of Zurich to consider which had a role in the resignation of Cavour followed by his reinstatement in 1860. Garibaldi begins actions to take territory on the part of Sicily - Palermo, Naples - 1860. In 1861, the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed after several plebiscites. More in:
