What does emotional intelligence mean? ~~~ Shall we begin by defining 'emotion'? Do you know what it is? 'Feelings' are 'thoughts'! 'Emotion' is the physical manifestation of 'feelings'! The tears from a strong feeling is 'emotion', the 'laughter' can be emotion. Intelligence seem to me to mean the understanding to identigy a 'feeling/emotion' for what it is. Intelligence is doing that and just because some passing feeling makes you uncomfortable, it doesn't mean that you need to jump up and "do something (to someone or something) about it"! It is just a passing thought, you don't have to attack and defend... That is intelligence. To punch someone, for instance, because your 'feelings' just got hurt is 'emotional ignorance'!

"All learning has an emotional base." -- Plato Emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to perceive, control and evaluate emotions. Some researchers suggest that emotional intelligence can be learned and strengthened, while others claim it is an inborn characteristic. Since 1990, Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer have been the leading researchers on emotional intelligence. In their influential article "Emotional Intelligence," they defined emotional intelligence as, "the subset of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and actions" (1990). http://psychology.about.com/od/personalitydevelopment/a/emotionalintell.htm http://psychcentral.com/lib/what-is-emotional-intelligence-eq/0001037 http://psychology.about.com/od/intelligence/fl/IQ-or-EQ-Which-One-Is-More-Important.htm
