Let me put it this way... if you aren't an experienced ebay seller, do not ever sell anything expensive. Just don't. As your friend found out, the scammers are very good at what they do. There is no way to guarantee that what happened to your friend won't happen to you. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and don't use ebay. If you want to sell something expensive, sell it on craigslist and insist on a face-to-face, cash-only transaction in a public place and bring a friend.

Experienced eBay sellers know you never sell anything on eBay you can't afford to give away. There is no 100% guarantee of anything in this life, especially not protection from online scammers. If you can't afford to lose your item the way your friend did, then sell it on craigslist in a face-to-face cash transaction instead. There is no way to answer your questions without seeing your actual listings, because the item you're selling, your selling history on eBay, and your selling style influences your seller protection. If you are "terrified," you need to get off the site immediately.

I would not sell anything valuable on Ebay. Try a consignment store or a specialty website. There is no seller protection. You cannot retaliate. Thats why Ebay took away the seller's power of negative feedback against buyers. You could possibly lose both the money and the item through a buyer scam. It happens all the time. I am an Ebay seller of 11 years with 100% feedback.

There is no way I would ever sell anything expensive on Ebay as I know too many people who had chargebacks filed and they lost their money and item. Ebay almost always sides with the buyer, not the seller, who will claim the box contained a brick
