Does Half Price Books give a better deal if you bring in fewer books?

  • The other day I brought in 7 or 8 books and got $11. Today, I brought in about 30 books and got $14. There was no obvious difference in terms of condition, demand, original price of ...show more

  • Answer:

what about differences in editions/ years published? older editions will get lower prices than more recent editions when there are multiple & updated editions of books. for example: a book published in 1972 that is still in circulation & has had several more recent updates/ printings would go for a lower cost. and then again the difference may have to do with how many they already have of the particular books you brought in, the demand for the books you brought in (do they have a lot already & is it a popular book that everyone wants or is it one only a few people want. example: some used bookstores offer a lower price for romance novels because they have so many. while others will offer a higher price for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, or Twilight series because they are still in demand.) or it could have been about the person behind the counter holding a tighter grasp on the money than the previous time you were in there. or they were overwhelmed at the number of books you brought in. but yes, I'd stick to only taking 10 to 12 books in at a time but then I like visiting bookstores & unloading books in the bookstore is just an excuse to visit one.
