What is the value of studying humanities?
-
I mean for the individual, but especially for society. Humanities funding is decreasing around the globe, while that of more practical subjects like business and engineering is remaining constant or increasing (E. Delany, 'Humanities studies under strain around the globe', NYT 1.12.2013.) How do you think studying the humanities contributes to society/do you think they should be valued?
-
Answer:
Understanding your culture in a broader sense, and learning quite a bit about other cultures as well. Perhaps even why some cultures developed the way they did.
