How to transfer to another NYC high school?

Do I have to stay 1 year in a high school in order to transfer to another high school in nyc?

  If you are just going into 9th grade, you can apply to transfer with very little difficulty. Just turn in a new high school application in December. You'll be notified as to whether or not you got into any of the schools on your new application in March. You'll get to start classes at your new school in September of 10th grade. This this the one and only time you'll be allowed to do this. After this, you may only have a hardship transfer or a safety transfer. A hardship transfer is given to kids who have over an hour and a half commute EACH WAY. A safety transfer is for kids who have been assaulted in school and have a police report to prove it. You can ask for a hardship transfer or a safety transfer in 9th grade as well, as long as you can prove it. This kind of transfer might be faster then a regular 9th grade transfer, if you are eligible.
