Expect to read a lot of poetry. To prepare, look up short stories/poems online and even if you don't understand what a certain piece of writing means, read it over and over until you understand. Make notes on a piece of paper of certain words or phrases you don't comprehend and look them up. It's all about practice. Then, practice writing poems/essays on your own. Read them over, have someone revise them if possible and fix any errors you may have. I definitely recommend any AP English course because it will provide you with the analytical and critical thinking skills to be a successful writer, which is essential as you will have to write many papers in college.
