How can someone make money on eBay with high fees?

The regular sellers try to put up their prices a bit to cater for commissions but they too are only scraping a living. eBay and Paypal are for losers who are disposing of stuff that nobody near you wants. It is not a money making or profitable model in the long run.

ebay is an auction site just like the physical ones in any town. between the listing fee, final value fee and paypal commission you will lose about 15% of the purchase price which is in line with the fee's charged by physical auction yards. Postage is usually paid by the buyer not you as an addition to the sale price. Small low value items are a waste of time because the postage kills them now. Most people on ebay are private sellers selling the odd item they do not need or want any more.

High fees? Try owning a real store some day. eBay/PayPal fees are nothing compared to that. eBay/PayPal fees are somewhere around 13% combined. At my store my costs are close to 44%. You only offer free shipping if you build the shipping costs into the opening price.
