    My biggest advise would be any cat food that is low in sodium and potassium would be good for cat with kidney problems unfortunately I am only basing this on what is good for people with kidney problems because they can't eat sodium, potassium, or phosphorus

Good on you for adopting this cat I wish more people would be as kind to them, we did the same thing a few years ago and adopted a very sick stray who developed kidney problems as a result of his life on the streets (he also had several STIs) and he died way too young because of it. We had a special food that we would buy from the vet for him called Hills Science Diet Feline Renal Health, it comes in wet and dry food and it's kind of expensive but not super expensive, just more than you would pay for the awful crap they sell in the grocery store. Your vet will most likely be able to order it in for you because they don't sell it in stores but you should also discuss a diet plan with them first, they might suggest something else to meet your cats specific requirements.
